Miguel Rojas homered for the third straight game, leading the host Miami Marlins to an 11-6 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night.
The D-backs' Ketel Marte hit his 23rd homer of the season, a three-run blast. However, it wasn't enough for Arizona, which lost three of four games in its series against the Marlins, who have the worst record in the National League.
Rojas has just four homers this year -- all of them in the first or second inning. On Sunday, he joined Hanley Ramirez in 2006 as the only players in Marlins history to hit leadoff homers in consecutive games.
On Monday, he went deep as part of a six-run second inning.
Caleb Smith (7-4) struck out nine in seven innings, allowing four hits, one walk and four runs. He leads the Marlins in wins.
Merrill Kelly (7-11) took the loss, allowing seven hits, two walks and seven runs. He has allowed seven earned runs in two consecutive games as his ERA has risen from 3.77 to 4.52 during that span.
Kelly got in trouble quickly on Monday. Neil Walker walked and Starlin Castro singled to start Miami's second-inning rally. Curtis Granderson and Harold Ramirez followed with RBI singles. One out later, Smith bunted, and Kelly threw wildly to first, allowing two runs to score. Rojas then homered on a 0-1 changeup to give Miami a 6-0 lead.
Arizona, however, cut the deficit in half in the third. Carson Kelly singled with one out, Tim Locastro doubled off the bottom of the wall in left with two outs, and Marte hit his three-run, line-drive homer. The ball, which had an exit velocity of 110 mph, skipped off the top of the wall in left.
Miami's lead was slashed to 6-4 in the fourth. Arizona's Adam Jones was hit by a pitch, on his back foot, and scored on a Wilmer Flores double to the left-center gap.
The Marlins got that run back in the fifth as Brian Anderson hit a first-pitch fastball for a solo homer that traveled 415 feet to left. Anderson's blast, which had a 107 mph exit velocity, was his 15th homer of the season and his second in two days.
Miami put the game away with a four-run seventh inning. The biggest blows were RBI hits by Garrett Cooper (single) and Walker (double).
Arizona scored two runs late, including a solo homer in the ninth by Carson Kelly, his 13th.
