Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a two-run homer a pitch after being knocked down by Giants right-hander Shaun Anderson, and Greg Garcia hit a two-run, pinch-hit single as the San Diego Padres defeated visiting San Francisco 5-1 Saturday night.
Although he had his streak of 18 straight scoreless innings snapped in the sixth, Padres right-hander Cal Quantrill (4-2) held the Giants to one run on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. The Padres won for only the seventh time in their last 22 games and snapped an eight-game home losing streak.
Anderson (3-3) suffered the loss, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in five-plus innings.
The loss was only the Giants' fifth in the last 23 games. They had also won six straight games against the Padres.
The Padres took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Hunter Renfroe scored from first on Wil Myers' double into the left field corner.
Quantrill helped his on cause by drawing a leadoff walk in the fifth. On an 0-2 count, Anderson knocked Tatis down with a high and inside pitch. The rookie shortstop got back to his feet and drove the Giant's next pitch, a slider, 417 feet to center for his 17th homer of the season and his third hit of the game.
Mike Yastrzemski opened the sixth with a double off Quantrill and scored on Pablo Sandoval's single for the first run allowed by Quantrill since July 3, also against the Giants. Quantrill then struck out Alex Dickerson but walked Stephen Vogt to leave the game with runners on first and second. Reliever Craig Stammen retired the next two batters
The Padres added two runs to make it 5-1 in the sixth.
Myers, who entered the game 4-for-28 in July, opened the inning with his second straight line-drive double to boot Anderson from the game. Trevor Gott came on to walk Luis Urias ahead of a sacrifice bunt by Austin Hedges. Garcia followed with his two-run single to left-center, providing insurance and the final margin.
