Asher Wojciechowski took advantage of some early run support and threw seven strong innings to lead the Baltimore Orioles to a 9-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim, Calif., on Friday night.

Wojciechowski was coming off his best start of the season, when he shut out the Boston Red Sox on one hit over 7 1/3 innings, and followed it up with another stellar effort Friday against the Angels.

Wojciechowski (2-3) gave up two runs on three hits and one walk through seven innings, while striking out six. His only blemish came on rookie Matt Thaiss' two-run homer in the fifth inning.

Nick Tropeano was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake to start the game for the pitching-strapped Angels, who used their originally scheduled starter -- Griffin Canning -- in Thursday's 16-inning 10-8 loss to the Orioles, leaving him unavailable Friday.

Tropeano, though, found trouble early.

The Orioles scored a run in the first inning against him without the benefit of a hit. Jonathan Villar, whose two-run homer in the 16th inning was the game-winner on Thursday, was hit by a pitch to lead off the game.

He stole second, went to third on a fly out to right and scored on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Santander.

Tropeano, who struggled at Salt Lake (2-4, 7.66 ERA), didn't get off so easily in the second inning. He gave up six runs, including a two-run single to Santander and a three-run homer to Renato Nunez.

Because the Angels' pitching depth is so thin, Angels manager Brad Ausmus had little choice but to leave Tropeano (0-1) in to eat up innings, so the starter stuck around for five innings, allowing seven runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out three.

Meanwhile, the Angels' offense could not do much with Wojciechowski, who held the Angels scoreless until the fifth. Wojciechowski struck out the first two batters of the inning before he walked Luis Rengifo. Thaiss followed with a two-run homer, cutting the Orioles' lead to 7-2.

Trey Mancini added to Baltimore's lead with a two-run homer in the top of the ninth, and Justin Upton hit a solo homer for the Angels in the bottom of the ninth.
