Daniel Vogelbach hit two solo home runs and the Seattle Mariners beat the visiting Texas Rangers 5-3 in the rubber game of their three-game series on Wednesday afternoon.
Vogelbach sparked a four-run inning with a leadoff home run in the fifth. After the Rangers scored three runs in the sixth, Vogelbach went deep again with one out in the bottom half of the inning to stretch the lead back to 5-3.
Seattle right-hander Mike Leake (9-8) went seven innings, allowing three runs and nine hits. He struck out seven and didn't walk a batter.
Anthony Bass pitched a scoreless eighth for the Mariners, and Roenis Elias worked the ninth for his 13th save of the season.
Rougned Odor hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning for the Rangers, who have lost nine of 10. Nomar Mazara, Hunter Pence and Danny Santana had two hits each for Texas.
Rangers left-hander Mike Minor (8-6) allowed five runs (four earned) and eight hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked one.
Minor fell to 0-2 in four starts in July with a 6.04 ERA. He was selected to his first All-Star game earlier this month.
Leake, who was coming off a one-hit shutout against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday, blanked the Rangers for 5 2/3 innings before Odor's three-run homer cut the deficit to 4-3.
Minor shut out the Mariners for four innings before giving up four runs in the fifth.
After Vogelbach gave the Mariners a 1-0 lead, RBI singles by Kristopher Negron and J.P. Crawford made it 3-0 before the fourth run of the inning scored on a throwing error by catcher Jeff Mathis.
Both teams played without one of their top sluggers.
Mariners right fielder Domingo Santana left the 7-2 loss to the Rangers on Tuesday with eight elbow soreness. Santana is hitting .273 with 19 home runs and a team-high 65 RBIs.
Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo also left Tuesday's game with what's feared to be a broken bone in the wrist, and the team sent him back to Dallas to see a specialist. Gallo is hitting .253 with a team-best 22 home runs and 49 RBIs in his first Al-Star season.
