Donovan Solano capped a two-run rally in the bottom of the 16th inning with a bases-loaded, walk-off single Thursday night, giving the host San Francisco Giants a 3-2 victory over the New York Mets.
The Giants' rally for a season-best sixth straight win came after Mets slugger Pete Alonso bombed his 32nd home run off minor league call-up Williams Jerez (1-0) leading off the top of the 16th to put the Mets on top 2-1.
Alex Dickerson led off the bottom of the 16th with a double off the Mets' eighth pitcher, right-hander Chris Mazza (0-1), and Brandon Crawford tied the game with a double.
The Giants then loaded the bases on a hit batsman and a single by Kevin Pillar, after which Solano lined his hit to right field to end it and give the Giants their seventh win in nine extra-inning affairs this season.
The loss dropped the Mets to 3-6 in extra innings this season and snapped their four-game winning streak.
A game that began as a pitchers' duel between the Mets' Noah Syndergaard and Giants' Madison Bumgarner ended in a battle of bullpen and roster attrition, with the Mets using 22 of their 25 available players and the Giants 20.
Jerez, promoted from Triple-A earlier in the day and pitching for just the second time as a Giant, got the win after allowing one run in two innings.
Neither former All-Star starter got a decision in a game where no doubt their trade values increased.
Remaining unbeaten in nine career starts against the Mets, Bumgarner went a full nine innings for the first time since July 2016. He was charged with one run on five hits, with one walk and six strikeouts.
Seeking a fourth win in seven career starts against the Giants, Syndergaard left for a pinch hitter in the eighth inning of a 1-1 game. He allowed six hits and just the one run in seven innings, walking one and striking out eight.
The Mets' only run in the first 15 innings came on a double-play grounder off the bat of Alonso in the first inning after Jeff McNeil had led off the game with a double and advanced to third on a single by J.D. Davis.
The Giants got even in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Pillar after singles by Pablo Sandoval, Crawford and Mike Yastrzemski had loaded the bases with one out.
Dickerson finished with three hits in seven at-bats, while Crawford, Yastrzemski, Pillar and Solano had two apiece for the Giants, who were opening a seven-game homestand.
Davis went 3-for-7 for the Mets, who fell to 4-2 on their nine-game trip.
