David Dahl and Daniel Murphy hit solo home runs in the eighth inning to lift the Colorado Rockies to a 3-2 win against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night in Denver.

David Hernandez (2-5) relieved starter Sonny Gray after he allowed one run and five hits over seven innings and gave up the game-tying homer with one out to Dahl and the go-ahead homer with two outs to Murphy, both on two-strike pitches.

Jairo Diaz (2-2) earned the win in relief of Rockies starter Jon Gray, who allowed two runs and four hits in seven innings. Wade Davis pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 13th save.

Eugenio Suarez broke a 1-1 tie with a solo homer in the seventh inning for Cincinnati in the opener of the three-game series. Jose Iglesias and Curt Casali had two hits each for the Reds.

Murphy had three hits and two RBIs and Tony Wolters had two hits for the Rockies, who ended a six-game losing streak.

Gray and Gray each threw five shutout innings in the first matchup between pitchers with the same last name and same color since Jumbo Brown of the New York Yankees and Lloyd Brown of the Boston Red Sox squared off in the second game of a doubleheader on July 26, 1933.

Both right-handers got into trouble in the sixth, however.

Jesse Winker gave the Reds a 1-0 lead with a one-out triple down the left-field line. The ball bounced off the wall in the bullpen area and got past Dahl in left, allowing Casali to score from first.

The Rockies came back with a run in the bottom half of the sixth after Dahl walked with one out and Nolan Arenado followed with a single. Murphy went the other way down the left-field line for a run-scoring double, but Gray avoided further trouble when he got Ryan McMahon to hit into a bases-loaded inning-ending double play.

Suarez gave the Reds a 2-1 lead in the seventh with an opposite-field solo home run that barely cleared the wall in right for his 21st of the season.
