Luis Arraez, Jorge Polanco, Jonathan Schoop and Mitch Garver each homered as Minnesota broke the major league record for most homers before the All-Star break while cruising to a 15-6 victory over the Texas Rangers on Friday night in Minneapolis.
The four home runs give Minnesota a total of 165 with two games remaining before the break, shattering the record of 161 set by the New York Yankees in 2018.
Schoop, who also had two doubles, went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, and Marwin Gonzalez finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Twins, who finished with 20 hits -- a team record-tying 13 for extra-bases. Byron Buxton had a pair of doubles while Polanco, Max Kepler, Garver, C.J. Cron and Arraez each finished with two hits.
Martin Perez (8-3) shut out the Rangers for the first six innings while snapping a six-game winless streak. After facing four batters in the seventh without recording an out, he was charged with four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three to pick up his first win since May 23.
Shin-Soo Choo and Logan Forsythe homered and Delino DeShields and Rougned Odor each had a double and two hits for Texas, which lost for the fifth time in its last six games. Adrian Sampson (6-6) took the loss, allowing seven runs on 11 hits in 3 1/3 innings.
Minnesota tied a team record with six extra-base hits in the second inning while taking a 6-0 lead. Garver led off with a double off the right field wall and then scored on a single by Gonzalez, who was then erased on a double-play grounder by Cron. Arraez followed with his second home run of the season into the plaza behind the right field seats to make it 2-0, breaking the pre-break home run mark.
Schoop then doubled and scored on a double by Buxton. Kepler singled in Buxton to make it 4-0 and Polanco, celebrating his 26th birthday, followed with his 13th homer of the season, a 424-foot drive to dead center.
Nelson Cruz also doubled in the inning before the side was retired. The six extra-base hits tied the team record for an inning set on June 9, 1966, in the seventh inning against the Kansas City Athletics, when the Twins had five homers and a double.
The Twins extended their lead to 7-0 in the fourth on an RBI single by Kepler, driving in Buxton, who had doubled, and Schoop's two-run homer made it 9-0 in the fifth.
The Rangers cut it to 9-5 during a five-run seventh capped by a two-run homer by Choo. But the Twins answered with three runs in the bottom half, including Garver's 13th home run of the season and a two-run double by Schoop.
Forsythe hit a solo home run in the eighth to make it 12-6, but the Twins answered with an RBI double by Gonzalez and a two-run double by Cron in the bottom half of the inning.
