Alex Cobb earned the win Tuesday night in his best start since joining the Baltimore Orioles, who received first-inning RBIs from Manny Machado and Danny Valencia in a 2-1 win over the host New York Mets at Citi Field.

The Orioles, who have the worst record in baseball at 18-41, snapped a seven-game losing streak. The Mets have lost five straight and 30 of 46 since an 11-1 start.

Cobb (2-7), who signed with the Orioles on March 21 and entered Tuesday with a 6.80 ERA in his first nine starts, didn't allow a hit until the fifth and ended up surrendering the one run on two hits and one walk while striking out seven over six innings.

The Mets mounted their lone threat against Cobb in the fifth, when Jay Bruce delivered a leadoff single for their first hit and went to third on Kevin Plawecki's double. After Adrian Gonzalez flied out to shallow left, pinch hitter Jose Bautista lofted a sacrifice fly to deep left. Cobb then whiffed Amed Rosario.

Mychal Givens tossed 1 1/3 innings before Richard Bleier induced Asdrubal Cabrera to hit into an inning-ending double play with runners at the corners. Brad Brach then earned his ninth save by working around a two-out walk in a hitless ninth.

The Orioles produced all their offense within a four-batter span leading off the first. Trey Mancini, Adam Jones and Machado all singled off Jason Vargas (2-4), with Machado's hit scoring Mancini. Jones then trotted home on Valencia's sacrifice fly.

Mancini had two hits.

Vargas took the hard-luck loss after allowing the two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four over five innings. Seth Lugo followed by striking out two batters over three innings of one-hit relief. Anthony Swarzak, who was activated from the disabled list earlier in the day, threw a hitless ninth.

Bruce had two hits.
