Tyler Phillips allowed just four hits while recording a shutout to help the Philadelphia Phillies cruise to an 8-0 win against the visiting Cleveland Guardians on Saturday night.
Phillips (3-0), a rookie right-hander, struck out four and walked one in his third major league start and fourth career appearance. He needed just 105 pitches to blank Cleveland.
Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber and Brandon Marsh homered during a seven-run fourth inning for the Phillies.
Schwarber had three hits and three RBIs, Marsh had two hits and two RBIs and Nick Castellanos homered, singled and scored twice for Philadelphia, which won for just the second time in its past five games.
Cleveland starter Carlos Carrasco (3-9) was tagged for six runs and six hits in 3 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked one.
In a matchup between the two teams with the best records in the major leagues, Carrasco allowed just one hit through the first three innings, fanning five.
However, he gave up an infield single by Trea Turner to start the fourth. Following a wild pitch that moved Turner to second, Harper went the other way with a full-count changeup and deposited the ball over the wall in left for a two-run homer and a 2-0 lead.
It was Harper's 100th home run at Citizens Bank Park.
Three batters later and with a runner on first, Marsh lifted a low two-strike changeup over the fence in right for another two-run homer and a 4-0 lead.
Philadelphia added two more singles before Carrasco was lifted after getting Austin Hays to hit into a forceout. Nick Sandlin entered the game, and Schwarber greeted him by hitting a three-run homer over the center field fence to cap a seven-pitch at-bat and stretch the lead to 7-0.
Castellanos took Pedro Avila deep to start the sixth inning.
Phillips benefited from double-play grounders in the first and sixth innings.
