Joey Wiemer and Willy Adames each had a three-run homer and Freddy Peralta allowed one run over six innings to pace the Milwaukee Brewers to a 9-3 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night in the opener of a three-game series.
Wiemer's fifth-inning homer off Tony Gonsolin (0-1) put the Brewers up 3-0. Adames' homer capped a six-run seventh inning to make it 9-1.
Peralta (4-2) allowed three hits, all doubles, while striking out five and walking two in a 94-pitch outing.
Gonsolin (0-1), making his third start since coming off the injured list, allowed three unearned runs on three hits in six innings. He fanned six without issuing a walk.
After being held to one hit through four innings by Gonsolin, the Brewers capitalized on an error for three unearned runs in the fifth. William Contreras reached on the miscue to open when third baseman Michael Busch bobbled a chopper, then threw wildly past first.
Brice Turang reached on a fielder's choice and Tryone Taylor singled with two outs. Wiemer then lined a 1-1 pitch 403 feet to left for his third homer.
The Dodgers, who had won eight of their previous nine games, answered with their only run off Peralta in the sixth when Freddie Freeman doubled to open and came around on back-to-back groundouts.
Milwaukee added six runs in the seventh off the Los Angeles bullpen. Brian Anderson and Turang opened with back-to-back singles off Phil Bickford, who entered to start the inning. With one out, Wiemer doubled off the glove of shortstop Miguel Rojas, scoring Anderson. Christian Yelich followed with a two-run single to make it 6-1.
Wander Suero came on and walked Jesse Winker. Adames then sent a 3-2 pitch 376 feet to right-center for his seventh homer.
Chris Taylor had a pinch-hit, two-run homer, his seventh, in the ninth for the Dodgers.
