Andrew Vaughn blasted his first career grand slam to cap a five-run outburst in the fifth inning and the visiting Chicago White Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers 11-5 on Sunday.
Eloy Jimenez had three hits, including a two-run home run, and drove in three runs. Gavin Sheets supplied two hits, two runs and two RBIs for Chicago (76-71). AJ Pollock added a solo homer as the White Sox won the last two games of the three-game series.
Tanner Banks (2-0), who pitched the last three innings and only allowed one run, was credited with the victory.
Willi Castro hit a two-run homer and Javier Baez had a solo shot for the Tigers (55-91). Detroit starter Drew Hutchison (2-9) was charged with six runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.
The White Sox scored a run in the first on consecutive two-out singles by Jose Abreu, Jimenez and Sheets.
Detroit answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Riley Greene walked before Castro's seventh homer of the season. Those were the only runs White Sox starter Vince Velasquez allowed in four innings.
Chicago tied it in the second on Pollock's leadoff homer to left.
Elvis Andrus sparked Chicago's five-run fifth with a one-out single. Yoan Moncada followed with a single and they pulled off a double steal with two outs. Jimenez walked to load the bases and Sheets drew a four-pitch walk, ending Hutchison's day. Vaughn then crushed a hanging breaking ball from Jason Foley over the left-center field wall.
Detroit scored two runs in the sixth to make it 7-4. The Tigers loaded the bases with no outs on two walks sandwiching Baez's single. Kerry Carpenter drew a walk to force in the first run and Jeimer Candelario's sacrifice fly scored Baez.
The White Sox tacked on three runs in the seventh. Jimenez unleashed a 450-foot rocket to center after Abreu walked. Later in the inning, Seby Zavala drove in Sheets with a single.
Jimenez had an RBI double in the eighth. Baez homered in the bottom of the inning.
