Lewis Brinson, starting in the cleanup spot for just the third time in his career, slugged a first-inning grand slam, leading the host Miami Marlins to a 6-3 win over the New York Mets on Monday night.

Miami reliever Dylan Floro inherited a bases-loaded, two-out situation in the eighth and got Brandon Drury on a grounder to escape the jam. That kept the score 5-3, and Floro held on in the ninth for his third save in six tries this season.

The first-place Mets have lost two in a row and four of their past five games. The Marlins ended a four-game losing streak.

Jesus Luzardo (3-4), making his Marlins debut, earned the win. Acquired from the Oakland A's last week, Luzardo allowed four hits, three walks and three runs while striking out five in five innings.

The game also marked the Marlins debut for catcher Alex Jackson, who was acquired from the Atlanta Braves last week. He went 0-for-4.

Tylor Megill (1-1), whose 2.04 ERA through his first seven starts was the second best in Mets history behind only Nolan Ryan, took the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, in five innings. His ERA rose to 2.68.

Mets center fielder Brandon Nimmo was scratched from the lineup and missed his third consecutive start due to a hamstring injury. He grounded out as a seventh-inning pinch hitter.

New York shortstop Javier Baez appeared to injure his left ankle in the third inning, but he remained in the game.

Miami loaded the bases in the first base with no outs on singles by Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Miguel Rojas and a catcher's interference on James McCann that put Jesus Aguilar on first. Brinson then poked his opposite-field homer for the second grand slam of his career.

The Mets put runners on the corners with no outs in the second as Baez walked and J.D. Davis singled. Baez scored when Luzardo bounced a wild pitch, and Davis scored on Drury's double.

New York cut its deficit to 4-3 in the third on Pete Alonso's 399-foot solo blast to left.

Miami stretched its lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the third as Brinson chopped an infield single and scored on Isan Diaz's double.

Rojas tripled and scored in the eighth, stretching Miami's lead to 6-3, and the Marlins held on from there.
