Jarrod Dyson homered on the second pitch of the game, one of three first-inning long balls for Arizona, and the Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 9-3 on Tuesday night in Denver.

Christian Walker and Nick Ahmed also homered in the first, and David Peralta went deep in the second inning as the Diamondbacks jumped on Colorado emergency starter Jeff Hoffman.

Kevin Ginkel (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings in relief for his first major league win in his fifth big league appearance.

Hoffman was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque before the game to pitch in place of scheduled starter Jon Gray, who was scratched due to left ankle soreness.

Catcher Dom Nunez homered in his major league debut, and Charlie Blackmon and Raimel Tapia each had three hits for the Rockies, who have lost seven of their past eight.

Dyson led off the game with his seventh homer, and Walker hit a two-run homer later in the first, his 21st of the year. Jake Lamb followed with a single, and one out later, Ahmed delivered his 14th of the year to make it 5-0.

The Rockies got a run back in the bottom of the inning on Daniel Murphy's RBI single but left the bases loaded when Yonathan Daza struck out.

Arizona tacked on two more runs in the second inning. Pitcher Zac Gallen led off with a single, and one out later, Peralta hit his 11th homer of the year, a shot to right, to make it 7-1.

Hoffman (1-4) lasted just two innings, allowing seven runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

The Rockies added another run in the fourth inning. With one out, pitcher Jesus Tinoco, who came on for Hoffman, singled for his first major league hit. Blackmon lined a single off the wall in right, and Trevor Story singled to load the bases.

Nolan Arenado hit a sacrifice fly to deep right to drive in Tinoco.

Arizona added two more runs in the eighth on RBI singles by Ahmed and Wilmer Flores.

In the bottom of the eighth, Nunez homered into the Arizona bullpen for his first major league hit. He was promoted from Triple-A Albuquerque befire the game when the Rockies designated veteran catcher Chris Iannetta for assignment.
