Rick Porcello collected his first victory of the season, rookie Michael Chavis hit his second career homer and the host Boston Red Sox downed the Detroit Tigers 7-3 on Thursday.

Porcello (1-3), who began the night with an 8.47 ERA, allowed three runs on six hits in six innings with five strikeouts. Rafael Devers had two hits and two RBIs, while Andrew Benintendi and Mookie Betts each supplied two doubles, a run scored and an RBI.

The Red Sox salvaged the last two games of the four-game series after dropping a day-night doubleheader on Tuesday.

Nicholas Castellanos hit a two-run homer, his first this season, for Detroit. Jordan Zimmermann (0-4) gave up five runs on five hits in three innings.

The Red Sox grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second on Chavis' homer over Fenway Park's Green Monster in left field. That two-out shot off a hanging Zimmermann slider brought in Xander Bogaerts, who reached on an infield single.

Boston's lead didn't last long, however, as the Tigers scored three runs in the third. JaCoby Jones led off with a double and reached third on center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr.'s error. He scored on Jeimer Candelario's single.

Castellanos then hit a Porcello fastball to the opposite field off the right field foul pole for a 3-2 Detroit lead.

The Red Sox came right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Betts ripped a one-out double down the left-field line. He moved up on a wild pitch and, after Mitch Moreland walked, J.D. Martinez smacked a tying single. Following a fielder's choice, Devers banged a double off the wall to knock in Bogaerts and Moreland to give Boston a 5-3 lead.

Reliever Buck Farmer retired the first two batters he faced before Boston touched him for a run in the fourth. Benintendi and Betts hit back-to-back doubles to make it 6-3.

Benintendi's RBI double off Victor Alcantara in the sixth gave the Red Sox a four-run edge, scoring Sandy Leon, who hit a one-out double.
