Five Oakland relievers combined for 5 1/3 scoreless innings as the host Athletics defeated the Seattle Mariners 7-5 Friday night.

Right-handers Yusmeiro Petit, Lou Trivino, Fernando Rodney, Jeurys Familia and Blake Treinen allowed a total of two hits with one walk and seven strikeouts after starter Mike Fiers blew a five-run lead. Petit (6-3) got the victory, and Treinen earned his 34th save of the season.

Matt Chapman and Stephen Piscotty hit home runs in a five-run first inning for the Athletics, who extended their lead over the Mariners to 5 1/2 games in the race for the American League's second and final wild-card berth.

With one out in the first, Chapman homered to left-center field, his 22nd of the season, off Seattle right-hander Mike Leake (8-9). With two outs, Khris Davis walked and scored on a double to center field by Matt Olson. Piscotty then hit a two-run shot, his 19th, to left-center to make it 4-0.

The A's weren't done, as Ramon Laureano reached on an infield single and scored on Marcus Semien's line-drive double to right.

The Mariners got a run back in the top of the second as Nelson Cruz led off with a single. With two outs, Cruz took second on a wild pitch and scored on Chris Herrmann's single to center.

Seattle tied it in the fourth off Fiers, a right-hander. Robinson Cano led off with a home run to right-center, his sixth, and Cruz followed with a homer to center, his 33rd. After Kyle Seager singled to center, Ryon Healy lined a two-run shot to left-center, his 24th, to make it 5-5.

The A's regained the lead in the fifth off Leake as Olson led off with a line-drive single to right and advanced to second on outfielder Mitch Haniger's fielding error. Olson moved to third on a single by Piscotty and scored on Laureano's sacrifice fly.

Oakland added a run in the sixth off right-hander Adam Warren as Jed Lowrie doubled to right with one out and scored when Davis grounded a single to center.

Leake allowed six runs on 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out three.

Fiers allowed five runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings, with no walks and two strikeouts.
