Jose Abreu and Nicky Delmonico each hit three-run home runs to highlight a seven-run seventh inning and James Shields gave up three runs on six hits over seven innings to pick up his fifth win of the season as the Chicago White Sox rallied to defeat the visiting Kansas City Royals, 9-3, on Friday night at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Delmonico finished with two hits and five RBIs while Tim Anderson had three hits -- including a double and triple -- scored three runs and stole two bases for the White Sox, who won their third straight game.
Shields (5-14) improved to 10-3 in his career against the Royals, including 3-1 this season. He walked two and struck out five.
Chicago trailed the Royals 3-2 entering the bottom of the seventh. Yoan Moncada led off with a single, Yolmer Sanchez reached on an error, then Abreu hit the first pitch from reliever Jason Adam 418 feet into the bleachers in left-center field for his 22nd home run of the season. The fielding error by shortstop Alcides Escobar snapped the Royals' team-record of 153 consecutive errorless innings.
After Matt Davidson struck out, Leury Garcia singled and stole second. Omar Narvaez then walked, and Anderson then singled to drive in Garcia to increase Chicago's lead to 6-2. Delmonico then followed with his fourth home run of the season, a 405-footer to right-center field.
Whit Merrifield had two hits, two walks, an RBI and also scored a run. Escobar also had two hits for Kansas City, who lost for the 12th time in 15 games. The Royals also fell to 19-41 in road games.
Merrifield had an RBI double, his 32nd double of the season, Alex Gordon added a sacrifice fly and Salvador Perez hit an RBI single to give the Royals a 3-0 lead in the third.
Delmonico had an RBI single in the fourth and an RBI groundout in the sixth, driving in Anderson both times, to cut it to 3-2 before Chicago blew the game open in the seventh.
