Joey Gallo and Ronald Guzman hit two-run homers to begin and end a flurry of seven unanswered Texas runs Thursday night, and the visiting Rangers hung on to beat the Detroit Tigers 7-5 in the opener of a four-game series at Comerica Park.

The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Rangers, who have won 12 of their last 17 games. The Tigers have lost three straight and 14 of 16.

Gallo hit a two-run shot in the second for the Rangers, who doubled their lead in the third when Nomar Mazara collected an RBI groundout and Elvis Andrus scored on an error by third baseman Ronny Rodriguez.

The Rangers extended the lead to 7-0 in the fourth -- Isiah Kiner-Falafa delivered an RBI single and Guzman hit a two-run homer -- before the Tigers began mounting their comeback in the bottom of the inning. John Hicks, Jim Adduci and Rodriguez all collected RBI singles in a span of four batters.

Niko Goodrum homered in the sixth to pull the Tigers within 7-4.

In the ninth, Rodriguez led off with an infield single, went to second on an error by third baseman Jurickson Profar and scored on Victor Reyes' single.

However, Keone Kela, the fourth pitcher of the night for Texas, induced pinch hitter Jeimer Candelario to hit into a fielder's choice, struck out Nick Castellanos and retired Goodrum on a comebacker to earn his 21st save in as many opportunities.

Yovani Gallardo (3-0) earned the win after allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits and one walk over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out two.

Guzman, Profar and Kiner-Falafa had two hits apiece for the Rangers.

Rodriguez had three hits while Hicks, Adduci and Reyes had two hits apiece for the Tigers.

Matthew Boyd (4-7) took the loss after giving up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and no walks over four innings. He fanned three.
