Jason Heyward scored two runs and drove in another, Anthony Rizzo knocked in two runs and the Chicago Cubs rallied from a three-run deficit to top the Detroit Tigers 5-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

Kyle Schwarber added a solo homer for Chicago. Ex-Tiger Justin Wilson (3-2) collected the victory with one inning of scoreless relief. Pedro Strop got the last three outs for his second save.

Neither starter figured in the decision. Chicago's Kyle Hendricks gave up three runs on seven hits in five innings. Detroit's Michael Fulmer tossed six innings, also allowing three runs on seven hits.

Mikie Mahtook led the Tigers' attack with three hits and a run scored. Niko Goodrum and James McCann had run-scoring hits. Daniel Stumpf (1-4), just activated off the disabled list, gave up a run in two-thirds of an inning and took the loss.

The Tigers jumped on Hendricks in the first inning for two runs. Mahtook and Nicholas Castellanos opened the game with back-to-back singles. Jeimer Candelario knocked in Mahtook with a groundout, and Goodrum followed with a double down the right field line to bring in Castellanos.

Hendricks has an 8.47 ERA in the first inning this season.

The Cubs had a threat going in the third, loading the bases with one out. Fulmer responded by retiring Heyward on a popup and Zobrist on a routine flyout to right.

Detroit made it 3-0 in the fourth on a Jim Adduci single, a walk and McCann's RBI single

The Cubs left two runners stranded in the fourth but broke through to tie the score in the fifth. Tommy La Stella led off with a pinch-hit, ground-rule double. Albert Almora Jr. and Heyward made it three straight extra-base hits with RBI doubles. Rizzo's single to left center plated Heyward for the tying run.

Chicago scratched out the go-ahead run in the seventh on back-to-back singles from Heyward and Ben Zobrist and Rizzo's fielder's-choice grounder.

Schwarber provided some insurance with his solo shot off Warwick Saupold in the eighth.
