Atlanta right fielder Nick Markakis had two hits and drove in a run against his former team on Sunday to help the Braves to a 7-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles at SunTrust Park.

Markakis, who played for the Orioles from 2006 to 2014, was 2-for-4 on Sunday and went 6-for-14 against the Orioles in the three-game series. Markakis has 99 hits in 76 games and is trying to get to 100 quicker than any season in his career. It took him 81 games in 2011 and 2014.

Markakis also scored a run as the Braves salvaged a game in the weekend series against the Orioles, who entered Sunday with the second-worst record in the American League.

Atlanta also got three hits from second baseman Ozzie Albies, who went 9-for-16 in the series and lifted his batting average to .264.

Brandon McCarthy (6-3) earned the win in his first start since June 15. The big right-hander allowed three runs on five hits in five innings, striking out five. He gave up a pair of home runs.

The Braves bullpen nailed down the win with one scoreless inning each from Shane Carle, Jesse Biddle, Dan Winkler and A.J. Minter.

Baltimore starter David Hess (2-4) gave up five runs on seven hits and two walks in four innings. He struck out four. It was the third straight start in which Hess has allowed five runs and failed to pitch past the fifth inning.

Freddie Freeman gave Atlanta a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a line-drive single to left that scored Ender Inciarte and Albies.

Baltimore cut the lead to 2-1 in the third inning when Trey Mancini hit his 10th homer, a solo shot to left field.

The Braves scored three times in the third to take a 5-1 lead. Markakis drove in a run with his 24th double and Charlie Culberson followed with a two-run double to center field.

Baltimore added a two-run pinch-hit homer from Mark Trumbo in the fifth inning. It was the eighth homer from Trumbo, who hit a grand slam on Saturday.

Atlanta put the game away in the eighth when Dansby Swanson clubbed a two-run pinch-hit homer, his seventh.
