SAN DIEGO -- There were a number of times this season when 24-year-old San Diego Padres right-hander Luis Perdomo didn't react well to adversity.

A two-out walk would result in a four-run inning. An error would create commotion. Instead of taking a deep breath, Perdomo would go into rush mode and throw fuel on the fire.

However, given a chance to collapse Tuesday night against the Giants, Perdomo weathered a stormy inning and retired 14 of the final 16 hitters he faced as the Padres defeated San Francisco 6-3.

Fourth-inning homers by Jabari Blash and Manuel Margot and some defensive heroics from players not particularly known for their prowess in the field gave the Padres a boost.

"I liked what Perdomo did," Padres manager Andy Green said. "We didn't help him at all in that second inning, but he got better from that on. He settled down."

In the second inning, San Diego third baseman Cory Spangenberg committed two errors in an inning for the first time in his career to help the Giants take a 2-0 lead. Perdomo also gave up three hits and a walk and faced a bases-loaded, one-out situation when already down by two runs.

He didn't cave, though. Perdomo (7-8) threw a called third strike past Jarrett Parker and then got Pablo Sandoval to fly out to end the inning.

Perdomo wound up allowing two runs (one earned), seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts in six innings.

"I was just trying to execute," Perdomo said. "Make my pitches and move on. It's about going after guys ... having the confidence to throw strikes. I have progressed a bit."

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said, "Perdomo's been on a good roll. He's just been getting ground ball after ground ball. He got settled in and limited the damage and pitched well after that."

Joe Panik opened the Giants' second inning with a single and moved to second when Spangenberg couldn't field Nick Hundley's grounder for an error.

After Ryder Jones flied out to right, Giants starter Matt Moore placed a perfect bunt toward third for a single with Panik scoring on Spangenberg's errant throw to first. Denard Span then doubled home Hundley with Moore stopping at third.

Hunter Pence drew a walk to load the bases, but Perdomo escaped with the two strikeouts.

The Padres got one run back in the bottom of the second. Wil Myers and Yangervis Solarte opened the inning with consecutive singles in front of a double-play grounder by Blash. Spangenberg then drove home Myers with an infield single.

Then came the fourth.

Blash tied the score at 2 with his fifth homer of the season on the first pitch by Moore to open the inning. The shot traveled 414 feet to left.

Moore hit Spangenberg with a pitch and walked Austin Hedges before getting a force on Spangenberg at third on a comebacker by Perdomo.

Margot then drove a 1-2 fastball from Moore 407 feet into the left field stands, with the three-run homer putting the Padres ahead 5-2.

"Hitting Spangenberg with the 2-and-0 heater and then compounding the mistake by walking Hedges on a full count, so you know you are just setting the table like that, especially with Margot being a tough out right there," Moore said. "Margot's homer wound up being the dagger."

Moore (4-13) allowed five runs, eight hits and a walk in five innings. He moved into a tie for the most losses in the National League.

The Padres added a sixth run in the sixth on a leadoff double by Spangenberg and a two-out RBI single by Carlos Asuaje.

Panik reduced the deficit to 6-3 with his ninth homer of the season with two outs in the eighth off Kirby Yates.

Padres left-hander Brad Hand came on in the ninth to get his 13th save.

The Padres, who snapped a four-game losing streak, have won eight of their past 11 games against the Giants and are 17-8 against San Francisco since losing the first nine meetings between the teams in 2016.

NOTES: The Padres activated RHP Miguel Diaz from the 60-day disabled list to bolster the bullpen and possibly start one game of Saturday's day/night doubleheader against the Dodgers. To make room for Diaz on the 40-man roster, the Padres designated LHP Dillon Overton for assignment. To make room for Diaz on the 25-man roster, the Padres optioned SS Dusty Coleman to Triple-A El Paso. ... Giants RHP Johnny Cueto is scheduled to throw a bullpen on Wednesday in San Diego. Cueto has been on the disabled list since July 15 with a flexor tendon strain. ... Giants C Buster Posey will likely miss all three games of the series with bone bruise and inflammation in his left thumb. ... Plate umpire Larry Vanover left the game in the top of the eighth inning after getting hit on the left side of his mask by a foul ball. Second base umpire David Rackley took over behind the plate.
