PHOENIX -- Fernando Rodney's sixth save in eight games might have been his most satisfying.

Beating the Los Angeles Dodgers has that effect on him.

The Arizona closer gave up a run in the ninth inning, but he got Yasmani Grandal to ground out on a broken-bat hopper to third base with runners on first and third base for his 33rd save in the Diamondbacks' 7-6 victory over the Dodgers on Tuesday at Chase Field.

"When you play the Dodgers, you want to let them know that we can compete with these guys," Rodney said. "Maybe they have a better team on paper, but we're a good ballclub. We can play baseball good, too. I'm ready to face the Dodgers any time, any situation. I'm not afraid."

A.J. Pollock and Paul Goldschmidt homered, and Pollock and Brandon Drury drove in two runs apiece in a five-run first inning for Arizona, which has won five straight.

Goldschmidt's homer made it 7-4 in the fifth inning before the Dodgers (91-39) scored off Archie Bradley in the eighth and Rodney in the ninth.

The Diamondbacks (74-58) remain two games ahead of the Colorado Rockies in the race for the first National League wild card. The winner of the wild-card game is almost certain to play the Dodgers (91-39), and Rodney said that is fine with him.

"We pitch very well," Rodney said. "If we keep going like that, anything can happen.

"I'd like to beat them in the playoffs. That's the team I want to face. That's the team they are talking about. They're the best team in baseball. So when you beat the best, you are the best."

Chris Taylor and Yasiel Puig homered and Yasmani Grandal had three hits for the Dodgers, who lost a third straight for the fourth time this season. They have not lost four in a row.

"We played very good baseball for a long time, and I am sure we will get on track again," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

Taylor had three RBIs, including a slow grounder to third base that drove in Chase Utley to make it 7-6 with one out in the ninth inning. Rodney got Curtis Granderson looking and hit Justin Turner before getting Grandal on a 3-2 pitch.

Dodgers left-hander Rich Hill (9-6) gave up eight hits and six runs in 3 2/3 innings.

Hill took a perfect game into the ninth inning and a no-hitter into the 10th inning of his previous start before losing 1-0 at Pittsburgh on Josh Harrison's leadoff home run. On Tuesday night, he lost his no-hitter on the first batter.

Pollock followed with a two-run homer, Drury had a two-run double, and Jake Lamb hit an RBI single to cap Arizona's five-run first.

"Just a bad night," Hill said. "I was terrible tonight."

Puig homered in the second inning. Taylor hit a two-run homer in a three-run third inning that included Grandal's RBI single as the Dodgers cut the deficit to 5-4.

Peralta knocked out Hill with an RBI triple for a 6-4 lead in the fourth inning.

Arizona right-hander Zack Godley (6-7) gave up four runs and six hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked one.

"There was a little bit of anxiety a little bit in the ninth inning, but that's what it's all about," Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said. "Ramp up, stay in the moment and collect your thoughts enough to execute and get the job done, and we did.

"We're starting to play the type of baseball we expected to play all season long."
