MILWAUKEE -- Chris Carter snapped out of a week-long slump with three hits and Zach Davies worked into the seventh as the Milwaukee Brewers knocked off the San Diego Padres 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Miller Park.

Carter was 0-for-22 coming into the game and struck out in the first inning against Padres right-hander Cesar Vargas.

But his one-out home run in the third put Milwaukee on the board and his RBI double off Kevin Quackenbush (1-2) in the seventh sent Jonathan Lucroy home and broke a 2-2 tie.

Lucroy finished with two hits, including his fifth home run of the season as the Brewers collected 11 hits.

Eight of those came against Vargas, who held Milwaukee to two runs and struck out seven while not walking a batter over five innings of work.

Davies, the Brewers' right-hander, scattered three hits over 6 1/3 innings of work. He also allowed two runs, struck out six and walked none.

He retired the first nine batters in order, then gave up a leadoff triple to Travis Jankowski to open the fourth. Jankowski went on to score on a sacrifice fly by Derek Norris, making it a 1-1 game.

Davies had retired seven in a row when Brett Wallace hit a one-out solo home run in the seventh, bringing Davies' day to an end.

Blaine Boyer (1-0) got Milwaukee out of that inning, Michael Blazek held the lead in the eighth, and Jeremy Jeffress worked around a two-out double by Alexi Ramirez in the ninth for his 10th save in as many chances this season.

NOTES: San Diego optioned RHP Leonel Campos to Triple-A El Paso Sunday morning and recalled RHP Tyron Guerrero. Campos worked two scoreless innings and picked up the victory in the Padres' 8-7, 12-inning win Saturday night. Guerrero appeared in 11 games for El Paso, posting a 3.60 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 10 innings. ... Brewers LF Ryan Braun took part in batting practice Sunday but was held out of the lineup for a second consecutive game because of a sore right wrist. Braun said he anticipated being available to pinch-hit and could be back in the lineup when Milwaukee opens a three-game series against the Cubs on Tuesday. ... Brewers manager Craig Counsell said no decision had been made on what to do with RHP Wily Peralta, who has struggled in his eight starts this season, going 2-4 with a 5.57 ERA and a MLB-high 1.99 WHIP.
