TORONTO -- It was not the best way to go into a game the Toronto Blue Jays badly needed to win on Monday afternoon.

They reached down to Triple-A Buffalo to bring up right-hander Todd Redmond for the start against Los Angeles Angels left-hander C.J. Wilson.

It appeared a mismatch made in heaven.

But Redmond made it through four inning, allowing three runs on four hits, and the Blue Jays rapped out 17 hits to defeat the Angels 10-6 to snap a five-game losing streak.

Wilson allowed 10 hits and four runs in five innings and did not factor in the decision.

The Blue Jays (18-22) did it behind designated hitter Jose Bautista, who had a home run among his three hits and drove in three runs, and rookie right-handed reliever Roberto Osuna, who pitched 1 2/3 innings to earn his first major-league victory.

"The first three innings I got the ball down, was able hit my spots and locate the pitches where I wanted to and they were swinging early and some of them were getting themselves out a little bit," Redmond said. "I started to get the ball up (in the fourth)."

"He was great," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "The second time around they started squaring him up a little bit, barreling him pretty good, driving some balls. Going in we didn't know what to expect, we were hoping to get four or five innings out him in a spot start.

"We really needed that game. We've been scuffling big time."

Osuna (1-0), a right-handed rookie, allowed one hit and struck out two, as the Blue Jays came back to take the lead with a four-run sixth.

Catcher Russell Martin had three hits and two RBIs, and third baseman Josh Donaldson had three hits and one RBI. Left fielder Danny Valencia also drove in a pair of runs with a double.

The Angels (19-19) had home runs from first baseman Albert Pujols, third baseman David Freese and catcher Chris Iannetta, who also had two doubles and two RBIs.

Right-hander Mike Morin (1-1) took the loss, after being charged with three runs in two-thirds of an inning on one hit and two walks.

There was some chirping between the dugouts in the sixth inning with Donaldson, who played frequently against the Angels when he was with the Oakland A's, being the focus. Donaldson, who struck out, made a gesture during the at-bat by Bautista.

"We said something to the umpire on the 0-1 pitch to Donaldson and Donaldson started yelling at our dugout," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "A lot of guys in our dugout took exception to him yelling at our dugout. We weren't even talking to him. We were talking to the umpire."

He said there has been no history with Donaldson

"Just some noise," Iannetta said. "I wasn't really focused on that, I was focused on Morin, making sure he was OK. ...I was kind of just focused on him and stayed out of that stuff."

"I think people saw what happened, they know the competitor I am," Donaldson said. "Just kind of got caught up in the heat of the moment. There was obviously something said to me ... at the end of the day you try to turn the page from it and see what happens."

The Blue Jays scored four runs on six hits and a walk in the second inning.

Right fielder Chris Colabello walked, second baseman Steve Tolleson doubled him to third and he scored on an infield single by shortstop Ryan Goins.

Donaldson, with a single, Bautista, with a double, and first baseman Edwin Encarnacion each drove in a run.

Redmond, who allowed only a walk through three innings, was hit hard in the Angels' three-run fourth.

Pujols hit his seventh homer of the season with one out. Right fielder Kole Calhoun doubled, took third on a single by Freese and scored on a wild pitch. Iannetta doubled to cut the lead to 4-3.

Right-hander Ryan Tepera, who entered in the fifth, allowed a first-pitch homer in the sixth to Freese, his seventh of the season, to tie the game 4-4.

Tepera left after Iannetta doubled with one out. Osuna allowed a two-out single to second baseman Johnny Giavotella and the Angels led 5-4.

Morin, who replaced Wilson in the sixth, loaded the bases on a single and two walks with two outs. Right-hander Vinnie Pestano gave up a two-run single to Martin. Valencia followed with a two-run double for an 8-5 Toronto lead.

The Blue Jays increased the lead to 10-5 in the seventh on Bautista's seventh homer of the season, a two-run blast to the third deck against left-hander Cesar Ramos

Left-hander Aaron Loup gave up Iannetta's first homer of the season in the eighth.
