Padres 2, Indians 1 (2nd):
Chase Headley singled in the tiebreaking run and Robbie Erlin pitched six solid innings as visiting San Diego defeated Cleveland for a split of a doubleheader.

Everth Cabrera went 2-for-4 and scored twice as the Padres won for just the third time in nine games. Cleveland won the opener 2-0 behind Jason Kipnis’ two-run homer and Zach McAllister’s 7 2/3 shutout innings.

Erlin (1-0) struck out six and allowed one run and four hits before exiting. Joaquin Benoit recorded four outs and Huston Street worked out of a ninth-inning jam for his third save.

San Diego loaded the bases against Trevor Bauer (0-1) in the sixth when Cabrera singled, Seth Smith was hit by a pitch and Yonder Alonso walked. Headley followed with a broken-bat looper into shallow left field to give the Padres a 2-1 edge.

Cleveland had two on with one out in the ninth before Street retired Yan Gomes on a fly to right and Asdrubal Cabrera on a sharply hit liner that right fielder Will Venable corralled. San Diego pushed across a run in the first when Cabrera scored on Smith’s infield out, and the Indians tied the game in third on a sacrifice fly by Mike Aviles.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Bauer struck out a career-high eight and was charged with two runs (one earned) and four hits in six innings. … The RBI was the first of the season for Headley, who is just 4-for-32. … Cabrera had two of Cleveland’s six hits.
