Angels 3, Mariners 2 (16): Mike Trout scored from second base on pinch-hitter Efren Navarro’s walk-off single in the 16th inning and Los Angeles outlasted visiting Seattle in the opener of a three-game series.

Trout lined his 100th career double into the right-center field gap off Dominic Leone (2-2) with one out and scored easily on Navarro’s single up the middle as the Angels extended their winning streak to six games. Los Angeles used eight relievers including Hector Santiago (2-7), who tossed 2 2/3 innings for the win in a game that lasted 5 hours, 14 minutes.

Trout had three hits for the Angels, who improved to a major league-best 27-9 since June 6. Los Angeles broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the fifth as Howie Kendrick singled off Hisashi Iwakuma to begin the inning and David Freese followed with an RBI double before scoring on Hank Conger’s one-out single.

The Mariners ended Jered Weaver’s outing in the seventh when Dustin Ackley belted a leadoff double and scored on Brad Miller’s single. Mike Morin replaced Weaver and retired Mike Zunino before Miller tied the game by scoring from second base on Endy Chavez’s bloop single to center field.

Robinson Cano went 4-for-6 for Seattle, which lost for the fifth time in its last seven games. The Mariners left 14 men on base and used seven relievers, including Tom Wilhelmsen, who allowed one hit over four scoreless innings.
