Angels 2, Mariners 0: Albert Pujols homered for the second straight game and Garrett Richards pitched seven strong innings as visiting Los Angeles one-hit Seattle for its first victory in five tries over the Mariners this season.

Pujols moved into 26th on the all-time home run list with 494, passing Lou Gehrig and Fred McGriff. John McDonald had two hits and was also hit by a pitch for the Angels, who learned before the game that left fielder Josh Hamilton is expected to be lost for 6-to-8 weeks with a torn ligament in his left thumb.

Richards (2-0) allowed a single in the third inning to Abraham Almonte while walking three and striking out six while surviving a pair of errors. Roenis Elias (0-1) was the hard-luck loser in his second major league start, allowing two runs and four hits in five innings as Seattle stranded four runners in the first three innings.

Pujols drove Elias' 0-1 offering over the Angels bullpen in left with Mike Trout aboard in the third. Seattle threatened when Brad Miller reached on McDonald's error after Almonte's one-out hit in the bottom half before Robinson Cano grounded out and Justin Smoak struck out.

Richards retired eight in a row until Miller reached on an error - this time by Howie Kendrick - in the sixth before Cano grounded into a fielder's choice and Smoak hit into a double play. Joe Smith pitched a perfect eighth and Ernesto Frieri worked around a one-out walk in the ninth to earn his first save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hamilton, who was off to a 12-for-27 start, suffered the injury during a head-first slide into first base in the seventh inning Tuesday. Los Angeles recalled OF J.B. Shuck from Triple-A Salt Lake City to replace Hamilton. ... McDonald replaced SS Erick Aybar, who could not play after undergoing dental work earlier in the day. ... Seattle placed LHP James Paxton - 5-0 in six career starts - on the 15-day disabled list after he left Tuesday's 5-3 victory with a strained back muscle.
