Mets 4, Reds 3: Zack Wheeler spun six strong innings and Anthony Recker hit a tiebreaking two-run homer as visiting New York held on to take the rubber game of a three-game set.

Wheeler (10-9) allowed a run and five hits while striking out six to record the 13th straight start in which he has allowed three earned runs or fewer. Curtis Granderson also homered and chipped in an RBI single as the Mets improved to 9-4 in their last 13 games in Cincinnati.

Skip Schumaker had two hits and an RBI and Jay Bruce slammed a ninth-inning solo shot to highlight a ninth-inning rally for the Reds, who have been held to three runs or fewer six times in their last nine games. Mat Latos (5-5) gave up three unearned runs in six frames to get tagged with a tough loss

Latos singled and came in on Schumaker's base hit to center to start the scoring in the fifth before Granderson followed a two-base error with an RBI single in the sixth to tie it. One out later, Recker slugged a first-pitch offering from Latos over the left-field wall for a 3-1 lead.

Wheeler struck out Jack Hannahan with a runner on third base to finish the home half of the frame before giving way to the bullpen. Granderson made it 4-1 with an eighth-inning blast and Jenrry Mejia recovered from Bruce's home and an RBI single by pinch hitter Ryan Ludwick before striking out Devin Mesoraco with the bases loaded for a rocky save, his 24th.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Mejia got Reds 3B Todd Frazier to ground to third for what appeared to be the final out but the call was overturned after a replay review before Mesoraco was retired. ... Mets CF Juan Lagares reached three times and stole three bases. ... New York returns home to host Colorado on Monday while Cincinnati welcomes St. Louis for four straight.
