Tigers 8, Athletics 6:
Austin Jackson singled in the go-ahead run after Victor Martinez delivered a tying solo home run as host Detroit stayed alive in the American League Division Series.

Max Scherzer (2-0) pitched two innings of relief and worked out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the eighth to earn the win for the Tigers, who knotted the series at two apiece and will head back to Oakland for a decisive Game 5 on Thursday. Jhonny Peralta delivered a three-run homer and Omar Infante’s two-run double in the eighth proved to be the decisive hit.

Coco Crisp collected four hits, three runs scored and an RBI while Jed Lowrie broke out of a slump with a homer and three RBIs for the Athletics, who squandered leads of 3-0 and 4-3. Yoenis Cespedes singled in a pair in the ninth, but Joaquin Benoit struck out Seth Smith as the tying run to end the game.

Crisp led off the contest with a triple and scored on Lowrie’s single to give Oakland a quick 1-0 lead. Those two combined to make it 3-0 in the fifth, when Crisp delivered a one-out single and Lowrie ripped a line drive out to right, just over the outstretched glove of Torii Hunter for a two-run blast.

Detroit got all three runs back in the bottom of the frame thanks to Peralta, who ripped a towering fly to left that made it past Cespedes’ leap for a three-run homer. Crisp singled in a go-ahead run off Scherzer in the seventh but Martinez knotted it again in the bottom of the frame with a solo shot into the front row in right off Sean Doolittle (0-1) that was upheld upon review, and Jackson singled in pinch runner Andy Dirks with a line drive to right later in the frame.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Hunter played with a jammed left shoulder and went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. … Athletics starter Dan Straily was charged with three runs on four hits while striking out eight in six innings. Tigers starter Doug Fister allowed three runs on seven hits in six frames. … Oakland is expected to send RHP Bartolo Colon to the mound in Game 5. Detroit will likely counter with RHP Justin Verlander after using Scherzer in Game 4.
