White Sox 2, Royals 1 (11):
Jordan Danks homered in the 11th inning as Chicago rallied late to avoid a three-game sweep at Kansas City.

The White Sox managed two hits in eight innings off Royals starter James Shields, who took a no-hitter into the sixth and struck out nine before being removed after 102 pitches. Kansas City closer Greg Holland loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth and eventually yielded the tying run when Alexei Ramirez’s soft single up the middle plated Alex Rios with two outs.

Danks, who was caught in a rundown between third and home to end the rally in the ninth, made up for the base-running breakdown by driving a fastball from Kelvin Herrera (2-3) out to right-center for his first home run. Jesse Crain (1-1) got the win in relief and Addison Reed pitched the 11th for his 11th save.

Alex Gordon singled to lead off the bottom of the first and took off early on a 3-2 pitch to Billy Butler with one out. Butler laced the slider inside the bag at third base and into the left field corner for a double, easily plating Gordon for the lone run in 7 1/3 innings off Chicago starter Chris Sale.

It looked like the White Sox had taken the lead in the seventh when Conor Gillaspie reached with a two-out single and Ramirez followed with a towering drive over the foul pole in left. But the drive was ruled foul on the field and upheld upon review.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The game was a makeup of Friday’s series opener, which had been postponed due to freezing rain. … The White Sox announced that RHP Gavin Floyd will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn flexor muscle and the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. The recovery time is expected to be 14-to-19 months. The 30-year-old is in the final year of his contract. … Chicago RHP Jake Peavy (back spasms) threw off a mound before the game and is expected to return to the rotation Wednesday at the New York Mets.
