Rays 4, Rangers 3 (12): Desmond Jennings recorded three hits, including an RBI single in the bottom of the 12th, as Tampa Bay edged ahead of Texas for the top spot in the American League wild-card race.

Jose Lobaton led off the 12th with a single against Joe Ortiz (2-2) and pinch runner Sam Fuld moved to second on a sacrifice bunt before scoring on Jennings’ liner to right. Sean Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a homer for the Rays and Brandon Gomes (2-1) struck out Ian Kinsler with runners at second and third to end the top of the 12th and earn the victory.

Leonys Martin collected his fourth extra-base hit in two days with a two-run triple for the Rangers, who remain a half game ahead of Cleveland for the second AL wild-card spot and a game behind the Rays. Texas closer Joe Nathan blew only his third save in 42 opportunities in the bottom of the 11th.

Martin lined a pitch over Jennings’ head in center field for three bases to knock home a pair of runs in the second and give the Rangers a 2-0 lead. Second baseman Jurickson Profar’s wild throw on a potential double-play grounder extended the sixth inning for the Rays and Rodriguez belted a two-run homer into the left-field seats to tie the game.

Elvis Andrus (two singles) was hit by a pitch with one out in the 11th and scored from first when Adrian Belte served a single into right-center to give the Rangers a 3-2 lead. Matt Joyce drew a two-out walk from Nathan before pinch runner Freddy Guzman stole second and scored on an pinch-hit RBI single by David DeJesus to tie it in the bottom of the frame.
