Cardinals 2, Mariners 1 (10):
Pete Kozma scored the winning run on Mike Zunino’s passed ball with two outs in the 10th inning as host St. Louis took sole possession of first place in the National League Central.

Kozma singled with two outs against Chance Ruffin (0-2) and Oliver Perez walked the next two batters to load the bases. Perez’s first pitch to Matt Holliday glanced off Zunino’s glove, and Kozma raced home from third to give the Cardinals their sixth win in seven games and a one-game division lead over Pittsburgh.

Seattle took a 1-0 lead in the fifth, when Zunino hit a leadoff blast to left field off Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright. But the Mariners made two defensive miscues in the eighth to allow St. Louis to knot the contest.

Second baseman Nick Franklin made a two-base error with one out as he was unable to catch Brock Peterson’s pop fly to shallow right-center field. Two batters later, shortstop Brad Miller made a poor throw to first base on a potential inning-ending double play ball hit by Jon Jay, and the errant toss allowed pinch runner Kozma to score.

Mariners starter Hisashi Iwakuma allowed three hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings. Wainwright gave up one run and six hits in eight innings and Kevin Siegrist (3-1) worked out of a 10th-inning jam prior to the bizarre ending.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cardinals C Yadier Molina went 0-for-4 after missing the previous two games due to his mother’s health issues. … Seattle had two hits in the ninth inning off St. Louis RHP Edward Mujica, but pinch runner Endy Chavez and LF Dustin Ackley were both thrown out stealing by Molina. … The Mariners have lost five consecutive games, and the walk-off defeat was their 12th of the season.
