Starling Marte smacked two homers and Brandon Inge, Russell Martin and Gaby Sanchez also went deep as visiting Pittsburgh trounced Seattle in the opener of a two-game set.

Martin, Inge and Marte all homered in a five-run second inning and Jeff Locke (7-1) pitched seven solid innings to win his seventh straight decision. The Pirates have won five consecutive games and are a season-high 17 games above .500.

Marte tripled off Joe Saunders (5-8) to start the game and scored on a grounder by Jordy Mercer. Martin homered to right-center field in the second to make it 2-0, Inge drilled a three-run shot to left and Marte sent one over the left-center field fence.

Locke gave up two runs and four hits before exiting. He allowed a run-scoring single in the second to Carlos Triunfel and a sixth-inning homer to Kyle Seager.

Marte homered again in the eighth for the first multihomer game of his career, and Sanchez blasted Pittsburgh’s fifth and final homer of the contest in the ninth. Seattle’s Justin Smoak hit a two-run homer to right with two outs in the ninth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Saunders allowed six runs and six hits in 1 2/3 innings … Eight of Pittsburgh’s 13 hits were for extra bases. … Seattle placed OF Franklin Gutierrez (hamstring) on the disabled list and recalled Dustin Ackley, who will primarily be used in the outfield with rookie 2B Nick Franklin now entrenched as a starter.
