Yankees 4, Blue Jays 3: Vernon Wells capped a four-run eighth-inning rally with a two-run double as visiting New York bolstered its playoff chances by ending a four-game losing streak.

Trailing 3-0 after seven innings, New York scored its first runs of the series on Robinson Cano's RBI single to right-center and Alfonso Soriano's run-scoring double to right. Wells followed with a double to left off Steve Delabar (5-5) that scored Cano and Soriano with the go-ahead runs.

David Huff (3-1) threw 3 2/3 solid relief innings to pace the Yankees, who are 2 1/2 games behind Texas for the second American League wild-card spot. David Robertson got the first two outs of the eighth inning and Mariano Rivera recorded the final four outs for his 44th save.

Toronto used the long ball to break a scoreless deadlock in the fourth inning. Colby Rasmus belted a Phil Hughes offering into the second deck in right field for his fourth homer in four games since returning from the disabled list, and Ryan Goins followed with his first career home run to nearly the exact same spot.

Toronto starter J.A. Happ held the Yankees to four hits and one run in seven-plus innings while fanning seven. He retired nine straight at one point and left to a warm ovation after throwing 101 pitches.
