Athletics 5, Yankees 2: Brandon Moss belted a pair of home runs and Dan Straily tossed 6 2/3 strong innings as Oakland extended its home winning streak to 10 games.
John Jaso singled, doubled and drove in two runs for the Athletics, who hadn't won 10 straight at home since Aug. 11-Sept. 1, 2006. Straily (4-2) allowed two runs and three hits, Sean Doolittle retired all four batters he faced and Grant Balfour worked out of a jam in the ninth for his 17th save in as many opportunities.
Oakland got on the board early against Phil Hughes (3-5), whose winless streak reached five starts. Josh Reddick led off the second inning with a single and Moss deposited the next pitch over the wall in right field for his 10th home run and a 2-0 lead.
The Athletics, who have captured six straight home meetings with the Yankees, got another run in the fifth as Eric Sogard drew a leadoff walk and stole second before scoring on Jaso's one-out double. Moss began the eighth with a blast off Joba Chamberlain, capping his second two-homer performance of the season, and Jaso added an RBI single later in the frame.
Mark Teixeira and Jayson Nix each drove in a run for New York, which is 3-3 on its 10-game West Coast road trip. Hughes yielded three runs and four hits while walking five in 4 1/3 innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Moss also homered twice against the Los Angeles Angels on April 29. ... Oakland rested CF Coco Crisp and LF Yoenis Cespedes on Wednesday. Crisp is battling a heel injury, while Cespedes exited Tuesday's series opener with tightness in his left hamstring. ... Straily retired 11 Yankees in a row before issuing a one-out walk to CF Brett Gardner in the sixth inning.
