Nationals 6, Mets 5: Jayson Werth drilled a two-out RBI double to cap a three-run eighth inning as host Washington overcame an early three-run deficit to salvage the finale of the three-game series.
Gonzalez Germen (1-2) entered the game with runners in scoring position and allowed former Met Scott Hairston to cross the plate on Anthony Rendon's RBI groundout. Ryan Zimmerman forged a 5-5 tie with an infield single and scored after Werth deposited a 2-1 fastball into the right-center field gap.
Tyler Moore, Wilson Ramos and Hairston had RBI singles and Denard Span extended his career-high hitting streak to 15 games with a pinch-hit single. Erik Davis (1-0), who was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse earlier on Sunday, struck out two in a scoreless inning to pick up the victory. Rafael Soriano secured his 36th save for the Nationals, who posted their ninth win in 12 outings to move 6 1/2 games behind Cincinnati in the race for the second wild card.
Matt den Dekker belted his first career homer and Daniel Murphy and Lucas Duda drove in a pair of runs apiece for the Mets.
After recording his first major-league hit with an RBI single in Saturday's 11-3 triumph, den Dekker provided another first during the second inning. Making his 11th plate appearance, the 26-year-old deposited a 1-0 fastball from Ross Ohlendorf into the second deck in right-center field to give New York a 3-0 advantage.
