Pirates 6, Brewers 4: Starling Marte belted a two-run home run and Brandon Inge delivered a go-ahead RBI single during a four-run eighth inning as visiting Pittsburgh ended a nine-game losing streak against Milwaukee.

Pedro Alvarez added a solo homer in the second and capped Pittsburgh’s offensive outburst in the eighth with a single off struggling reliever John Axford (0-3). Bryan Morris (1-1) secured his first career win by retiring the only two batters he faced in the seventh and Jason Grilli closed it with his league-leading 11th save.

Carlos Gomez and Yuniesky Betancourt hit back-to-back home runs for the Brewers, who saw their eight-game home winning streak snapped. Betancourt homered in every game this series for Milwaukee, which fell to 46-8 against the Pirates at Miller Park since 2007.

Gomez and Betancourt’s fourth-inning homers helped the Brewers take a 3-1 edge in support of starter Hiram Burgos, who struck out six over a career-high seven innings. Michael McKenry answered with a solo blast off Burgos in the seventh, but Milwaukee got the run back on Jean Segura’s RBI single in the bottom half.

The Pirates roughed up Axford in the eighth when Travis Snider reached on an infield single and Marte followed with his second home run in as many games. Inge broke the tie with his single and advanced to third when second baseman Rickie Weeks kicked the ball into right field as he was attempting to collect it.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Pittsburgh RF Jose Tabata appeared to suffer a left leg injury while stealing a base in the eighth inning. He was replaced by pinch runner James McDonald, Tuesday’s starting pitcher, who came across to score the go-ahead run. … The Pirates have homered in 12 of their last 14 games, including 12 in the last four games alone. ...Milwaukee is 71-25 overall against Pittsburgh since 2007.
