Phillies 6, Marlins 4: Chase Utley homered and drove in four runs and Roy Halladay tossed six solid innings as host Philadelphia posted its seventh straight victory over Miami.
Utley and Jimmy Rollins each finished with three hits and matched Cesar Hernandez by scoring twice. Carlos Ruiz ripped a two-run single for the Phillies, who have won eight of their last 11 and handed the reeling Marlins their fourth straight loss and 10th in 12 outings.
Halladay (4-4) snapped a stretch of three straight no-decisions after allowing one run on four hits in six innings. Justin Ruggiano and Adeiny Hechavarria had run-scoring hits to trim Philadelphia's lead to 6-3 in the eighth, but Jonathan Papelbon overcame Giancarlo Stanton's two-out RBI single in the ninth to secure his 28th save.
After Utley opened the scoring with a line-drive RBI single in the third inning, Ruiz followed by drilling an 0-1 fastball from rookie Brian Flynn (0-2) into center to give the Phillies a 3-0 lead.
Ed Lucas put the Marlins on the scoreboard with an RBI single in the fifth, but Utley answered in the bottom of the frame by jumping on a 1-0 slider from Flynn and depositing it over the wall in right field. Utley's homer was his 18th of the season and second in as many days following a 22-game drought.
GAME NOTEBOOK: With a one-out double in the seventh inning, Marlins OF Juan Pierre tied Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio with 2,215 hits. ... Flynn permitted his second straight six-run outing while also allowing 11 hits in six innings. ... ...
