Cardinals 4, Marlins 1: Jake Westbrook scattered three hits over seven superb innings and Allen Craig drove in a pair of runs as host St. Louis posted just its fourth win in 12 outings.
Matt Holliday and Matt Adams had two hits apiece, including RBI doubles to highlight a three-run third inning for the Cardinals.
Westbrook (5-3) overcame a mammoth 446-foot homer by Logan Morrison in the second inning to subdue the Marlins, who suffered their fourth loss in 14 contests. The right-hander used a workmanlike effort by tossing just 86 pitches to avenge a 5-4 loss to Miami on June 14.
After Morrison's blast forged a 1-1 tie, Holliday and Adams went to work against Missouri-born Jacob Turner (2-1) in the third. Holliday gave St. Louis the lead after lining a 2-2 offering into right field for a double and Adams followed Craig's sacrifice fly by plating Holliday with a double off the left-field wall.
Trevor Rosenthal struck out the side in the eighth inning before Edward Mujica worked the ninth for his 22nd save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Craig extended both his hitting streak and run-scoring stretch to six games with his first-inning RBI double. ... Turner yielded four runs on seven hits in six innings. ... St. Louis RF Carlos Beltran was given the day off, prompting manager Mike Matheny to put Craig in right field and Adams at first base.
