Royals 7, Mariners 6 (13): Mike Moustakas blasted a leadoff homer in the bottom of the 13th inning to cap a 19-hit attack and give Kansas City a dramatic victory over visiting Seattle.

Moustakas drilled a 0-2 pitch from Chance Ruffin (0-1) over the right-field fence to move the Royals within 4 1/2 games of Tampa Bay for the American League’s second wild-card spot. Billy Butler went 5-for-5, Emilio Bonifacio had four hits and Louis Coleman (3-0) recorded one out in the top of the 13th as Kansas City sent the Mariners to their 10th loss in 14 games.

The Royals were one strike away from winning in the ninth when pinch hitter Raul Ibanez hit a game-tying blast off Greg Holland to snap the closer’s streak of 31 consecutive saves. The homer was Ibanez’s 26th of the season, three behind Ted Williams (1960) for most by a player 41 years of age or older.

Seattle scored three runs in the first inning on Kendrys Morales’ RBI single and Justin Smoak’s two-run homer, and the lead reached 5-0 on Brad Miller’s sacrifice fly in the fourth. Alex Gordon smashed a two-run shot in the fifth and Salvador Perez slapped an RBI single to left later in the frame to pull the Royals within two.

Eric Hosmer smacked a run-scoring double off the center-field fence in the seventh and Butler delivered a tying single to left. Kansas City went ahead 6-5 later in the frame, when Justin Maxwell lined a sacrifice fly to left to plate Butler.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The five-hit performance was Butler’s second of the season and third of his career. … Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie allowed five runs and seven hits in six innings, while Seattle’s Joe Saunders gave up three runs and 11 hits in 4 2/3 frames. … Perez was 3-for-3 before exiting in the fifth due to dizziness shortly after taking a foul ball to the mask.
