Mets 4, Royals 2 (11): Eric Young Jr. belted a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning as host New York snapped Kansas City's nine-game winning streak.
Young lined a fastball off reliever Luis Mendoza (2-6) over the fence in right field for his first career walk-off hit and first homer with the Mets, who won for the third time in eight games. Carlos Torres (2-2), Saturday's scheduled starter, pitched two scoreless innings for the victory.
Mets captain David Wright also hit a two-run homer - his 16th of the year and first in 12 games - but left in the 10th inning with what appeared to be a right hamstring injury. Dillon Gee allowed one run and three hits in seven-plus frames, but New York's bullpen could not protect the lead.
Lorenzo Cain's bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the ninth off fill-in closer David Aardsma tied it at 2-2 for the Royals, who got a leadoff double from pinch-hitter Miguel Tejada to start the rally. Kansas City got on the board in the eighth without a hit, parlaying a walk, a hit batsman and two fielder's-choice grounders into its first run.
Ike Davis went 3-for-3 - his second three-hit effort of the season - and Omar Quintanilla had two hits for New York, which stranded the potential winning run at third base with one out in both the ninth and 10th innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Wright's blast was the 220th of his career, tying Mike Piazza for second place on the franchise list behind Darryl Strawberry (252). ... RHP Wade Davis allowed two runs and eight hits in five innings for the Royals, who were denied in their bid to win 10 straight for the first time since reeling off 14 straight victories in 1994. They also had their six-game road winning streak snapped. ... Mets closer Bobby Parnell (neck) was unavailable for a third straight game and his status for the remainder of the weekend remains unclear. New York also placed LHP Josh Edgin on the 15-day disabled list with a hairline left rib fracture and recalled LHP Pedro Feliciano, who retired the only batter he faced in his first major-league appearance since on Oct. 2, 2010.
