Angels 2, Astros 1: Jerome Williams tossed seven innings of one-run ball and visiting Los Angeles edged Houston in the rubber match of the three-game series.

The Angels broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth when Erick Aybar and Hank Conger led off with consecutive singles and Aybar scored on Andrew Romine’s sacrifice fly. Williams (8-10) yielded five hits without issuing a walk and Ernesto Frieri worked two scoreless innings for his 34th save.

Josh Hamilton gave the Angels an early lead with an RBI triple in the first off Paul Clemens (4-5), who surrendered two runs over seven frames in his third career start. Houston answered in the second on Marc Krauss’ two-out solo blast into the right-field seats.

Houston had two runners on in the eighth before Frieri replaced Dane De La Rosa and retired the next three batters in order to escape the jam. De La Rosa pitched in his 70th game this season and set an Angels franchise record for rookie appearances.

Conger had two hits for Los Angeles, which won for the eighth time in its last 11 contests and remained unbeaten in its last seven straight series. The Astros threatened again in the ninth when Matt Dominguez led off with a single, but Frieri struck out two of the next three batters to end the game.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Angels DH Mike Trout went 0-for-3 with a walk to become the first player in American League history with 70 extra-base hits, 30 stolen bases and 100 walks in a season. … Los Angeles begins a three-game series at Oakland on Monday, while Houston hosts Cincinnati for three games. … The Astros won the season series against Los Angeles 10-9.
