Marlins 2, Tigers 1 (10): Giancarlo Stanton singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as Miami edged visiting Detroit for the second straight night.

Justin Ruggiano walked to start the 10th off Evan Reed (0-1) and moved to third after a sacrifice, a hit batsman and a walk before Stanton lined a single up the middle. Christian Yelich had a pair of hits and Ed Lucas singled home the tying run in the bottom of the ninth for the Marlins.

Steve Cishek (4-6) worked around a one-out walk to pitch a scoreless 10th and get the victory. Jhonny Peralta, along with former Marlins Miguel Cabrera and Omar Infante, recorded two singles each for the American League Central champion Tigers.

Detroit closer Joaquin Benoit blew only his second save in 26 chances by allowing two hits and two walks in the ninth. Yelich singled and Stanton walked with one out before Lucas singled up the middle with two down, knocking home Yelich from second.

Prince Fielder led off the fourth inning with a walk and moved up two bases on Peralta’s single before scoring on Alex Avila’s sacrifice fly to left as the Tigers took a 1-0 lead. Detroit starter Anibal Sanchez, a former Marlin, allowed two hits over five shutout innings and three Tigers pitchers held his lead through eight innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Tigers set a major-league record for strikeouts by a pitching staff in one season with 1,415 after collecting 11 on Saturday. The 2003 Chicago Cubs previously held the mark with 1,404. … Miami starter Nathan Eovaldi yielded one run and seven hits over six innings while striking out five. … Sanchez matched his career high of 202 strikeouts, which he also accomplished in 2011 with the Marlins, and locked up the AL ERA crown with a 2.57 mark.
