Tigers 10, Phillies 0:
Miguel Cabrera homered in his first at-bat after a four-game layoff and Max Scherzer became the first 15-game winner in the major leagues as host Detroit sent Philadelphia to its season-high seventh straight loss.

Cabrera, who was sidelined with a left hip injury, drove the third pitch he saw from fill-in starter Raul Valdes over the left-center field wall to begin a five-run first inning for the Tigers. It was the 32nd home run for Cabrera, who also singled in a run in the second and recorded an RBI groundout in the fourth to make it 9-0.

Scherzer (15-1) was the beneficiary of the 15-hit attack, but he did not need much support. The All-Star, who turned 29 on Saturday, allowed one hit and struck out seven in six innings.

Matt Tuiasosopo clubbed a three-run shot to cap the first-inning rally for Detroit. Victor Martinez finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and Torii Hunter had three hits and scored twice as the Tigers won for the sixth time in seven games.

Valdes (1-1), making his third career start after Cliff Lee was bumped due to a stiff neck, gave up nine runs and 12 hits in 3 2/3 innings. Darin Ruf and Kevin Frandsen had the only two hits for the Phillies.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The start of the game was delayed nearly an hour due to rain. ... Philadelphia's losing streak is its longest since September 2011. ... Scherzer, who threw just 75 pitches, is the first Tigers pitcher to open 15-1 since at least 1919.
