Angels 7, Tigers 4:
Mike Trout homered and drove in three runs and Erick Aybar added a two-run blast as visiting Los Angeles outslugged Detroit.

Josh Hamilton and Alberto Callaspo each drove in a run in support of six relievers, who were forced into duty after scheduled starter Tommy Hanson was scratched due to forearm tightness. Billy Buckner went three innings in the spot start and Dane De La Rosa (2-1) picked up the win with two scoreless frames for the Angels.

Torii Hunter and Miguel Cabrera each homered for the Tigers, who have allowed 21 runs in dropping the first two games of the series. Rookie Jose Alvarez (1-1) surrendered four runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings to suffer his first career loss.

Hunter and Cabrera went back-to-back off Buckner in the first inning but Trout evened it up in the third when he lined a 2-1 changeup over the wall in left for a two-run homer. Prince Fielder singled in a run in the next half inning to put Detroit back in front, but Aybar ended Alvarez’s night and gave Los Angeles the lead for good with a two-run blast into the Tigers bullpen in the sixth.

Trout doubled in a run to start a three-run rally in the seventh that pushed the lead to 7-3. Fielder scored in the eighth on a passed ball to chop it back to a three-run deficit, leaving Ernesto Frieri to strike out a pair in a scoreless ninth for his 18th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Alvarez was making his third major-league start in place of Anibal Sanchez (right shoulder strain), who will throw a bullpen session on Thursday to determine if he can make his next start. … Hanson warmed up in the bullpen before the game but felt tightness in his right forearm and shut it down 15 minutes before the game. … Tigers LH Drew Smyly allowed a season-high three earned runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief. He entered the contest with a 1.75 ERA.
