Leake (10-4) allowed one run on a career-high 12 hits for the Reds, who won six of the seven meetings against the Giants this season while outscoring them 45-14. Leake also snapped an 0-for-26 slump with three hits for his 11th career multi-hit game.

Shin-Soo Choo led off the game with a double off Chad Gaudin (4-2) and scored on Joey Votto’s sacrifice fly, and the Reds extended their lead when Mesoraco capped a three-run third inning with an RBI single. Gaudin was pulled after yielding six runs with five walks over 3 2/3 innings.

Hunter Pence, who matched his career high with five hits, singled in a run in the third to cut the lead to 4-1. The Reds answered with two runs in the fourth and two in the sixth on RBI singles by Phillips and Mesoraco.

The Giants loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh before Sam LeCure replaced Leake and retired the next three batters in order to end the inning. Cincinnati won for the sixth time in its last eight games, while San Francisco dropped a season-high 7 1/2 games behind first-place Los Angeles.
