Indians 2, Astros 1 (11): Matt Carson delivered a walk-off RBI single with two outs in the 11th inning to lift host Cleveland past Houston.

Yan Gomes started the frame with a single off Rhiner Cruz (0-2) and moved up on Asdrubal Cabrera’s infield hit and Mike Aviles’ two-out walk. Carson drilled the second pitch from Cruz past Houston second baseman Jose Altuve for the first walk-off hit of his career.

Nick Swisher went 4-for-4 for the Indians, who are one-half game behind co-leaders Tampa Bay and Texas in the American League wild-card race. Bryan Shaw (5-3) pitched a scoreless top of the 11th to help send Houston to its sixth straight defeat.

Jason Kipnis had a run-scoring single in the first for Cleveland. Houston tied the game in the second on a sacrifice fly by L.J. Hoes, but the offenses went silent until Carson delivered his seventh hit in nine at-bats for the Indians.

Cleveland starter Ubaldo Jimenez struck out nine while allowing one run and six hits over seven innings. Houston’s Dallas Keuchel gave up one run and seven hits with seven strikeouts in seven frames.
