Royals 4, White Sox 1: Salvador Perez and Brett Hayes each belted two-run homers while Bruce Chen pitched 6 2/3 strong innings as visiting Kansas City took three of four in the final series of the season.

Perez collected three hits and Johnny Giavotella had two for the Royals (86-76), and Hayes registered his first homer since 2011. Chen (9-4) allowed one run on four hits while striking out four and Greg Holland loaded the bases in the ninth before striking out the final two batters for his 47th save.

Alexei Ramirez recorded a solo homer and a single for the White Sox (63-99), who finished last in the American League Central for the first time since 1989. Chicago starter Jose Quintana (9-7) yielded four runs and six hits over seven innings to take the loss after winning his previous two outings.

Giavotella walked to lead off the fourth and trotted home when Perez hit the first pitch from Quintana out to left field for his 13th blast of the season and a 2-0 lead. The White Sox cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the frame when Ramirez hit his sixth on the first pitch he saw from Chen.

Justin Maxwell walked with one out in the seventh for the Royals and scored when Hayes hit his blast to left field on a 0-1 pitch. Chen walked a pair with two outs in the seventh before Kelvin Herrera came on to get the final out, and Luke Hochevar pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Chicago 1B Paul Konerko went 0-for-1 before being taken out to a big ovation after the first inning in what could be his last game with the organization.
