White Sox 4, Athletics 2: Tyler Flowers and Alex Rios belted solo homers to back 6 1/3 solid innings from Hector Santiago as host Chicago salvaged a split of the four-game series.

Santiago (2-4), making a spot start in place of an injured Jake Peavy, allowed two runs - one earned - on four hits and struck out six to help the White Sox win for only the third time in 13 games. Three relievers bridged the gap to Addison Reed, who struck out two in the ninth for his 19th save.

Coco Crisp belted a solo homer and A.J. Griffin (5-5) gave up four runs on seven hits in 7 1/3 innings as Oakland fell to 18-5 in its last 23 games and dropped back-to-back contests for the first time since May 14-15 vs. Texas.

Chicago broke a 1-1 deadlock with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Conor Gillaspie put the White Sox ahead for good with a sacrifice fly before Gordon Beckham lashed a run-scoring double down the left-field line.

Oakland got within a run on Matt Thornton's errant pickoff throw in the seventh inning, allowing Josh Reddick to score, but Rios clubbed his 11th homer in the eighth inning to restore the two-run edge.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Sunday marked the two-year anniversary of Bob Melvin's first game as manager of the Athletics. He was named interim manager after the club fired Bob Geren. ... Santiago earned his first win since May 1 in his sixth start of the year. He had walked five and took the loss in relief in Oakland on June 1. ... The White Sox continue their seven-game homestand when they host the Toronto Blue Jays for three games beginning on Monday while Oakland heads home to open a three-game set against the New York Yankees on Tuesday.
