Phillies 5, Braves 4: Cameron Rupp hit a two-run single and Cesar Hernandez had a career-high four hits as Philadelphia held on to pick up a rare road win.

Phillies rookie starter Ethan Martin allowed one run in three innings in a spot start and four other relievers - including winner Luis Garcia (1-1) - helped the visitors carry a 5-1 lead into the ninth before Jonathan Papelbon served up a three-run homer to Justin Upton. Jimmy Rollins had two hits and scored twice as Philadelphia won for just the seventh time in its last 30 road games.

Mike Minor (13-9) permitted two runs and struck out six in as many innings for Atlanta, which fell a game behind St. Louis in the race for the best record in the National League with one contest remaining. Upton was 4-for-5 and Jason Heyward reached base three times and scored once for the Braves.

Rupp drove in Hernandez and Rollins with a base hit to center with two outs in the top of the first inning. Hernandez singled to start the seventh and later scored on an error before Domonic Brown laced a base hit to right to plate Rollins and make it 4-1.

Chase Utley's RBI infield hit in the eighth made it 5-1 but Papelbon nearly gave it all back. He allowed a pair of infield hits and Upton's blast to center with two outs before letting two more reach base. Papelbon finally induced a game-ending groundout by Chris Johnson, who slid headfirst into first base - to the chagrin of Atlanta coach Terry Pendleton.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Braves C Brian McCann, out with a strained adductor, may play a few innings in Sunday's finale. ... Atlanta can still claim home-field advantage throughout the NL playoffs with a win Sunday and a St. Louis loss to the Chicago Cubs. ... Phillies 1B Darin Ruf, who went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts, is 0-for-11 with seven strikeouts in the first three contests of the four-game set.
