Phillies 6, Braves 5: Freddy Galvis hit the game-winning homer in the ninth as host Philadelphia survived blowing a two-run lead in the top of the inning.

Galvis, who finished with four hits, connected on a 1-0 pitch from Atlanta reliever Freddy Garcia (0-1) as the Phillies won just their fourth series since the All-Star break. Jonathan Papelbon (5-1) got the win despite allowing Andrelton Simmons' two-out homer in the top of the ninth that tied the game at 5-5.

Simmons finished with three hits for Atlanta, lining a 2-2 offering from Papelbon into the second row of seats in left field with two outs in the ninth. Freddie Freeman and Chris Johnson finished with two hits each for Atlanta, which saw its lead over Washington in the National League East cut to 13 games.

Carlos Ruiz finished with three RBIs for the Phillies, highlighted by his fifth-inning double to left which scored Chase Utley to snap a 2-2 tie. Galvis drove in Ruiz on a single to center later in the inning to push the Philadelphia lead to 4-2.

Ruiz drove in Philadelphia’s first two runs in the third on a single to left, tying the game at 2-2. Freeman opened the scoring in the third with a two-run double to center, and scored on Johnson’s sixth-inning double to center that brought the Braves within 4-3.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Atlanta starter Alex Wood, who went 2-0 in August with a 0.90 ERA, gave up four runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings. … Freeman has 11 RBIs in six games this month. ... CF Cesar Hernandez and 1B Kevin Frandsen each finished with three of the Phillies' 15 hits.
